Cut Absenteeism | Subject.com

Attendance by design

Five more students enrolled is $50,000 in district funding.

The Subject platform teaches through short cinematic video built around students' real interests. When the content gives students a reason to show up, chronic absenteeism drops and district funding follows.

For Teachers

Teachers have access to real-time progress visibility. Get granular visibility into active vs. idle time, assignments completed, clicks, mouse movements, and video time, all aligned to your school’s attendance and state reporting requirements.

For Admins

Administration can measure the ROI of improving attendance. Track how attendance improvements protect per-pupil funding, recover credits, retain students, and quantify the financial impact of keeping students connected to learning—all within the Subject Admin Dashboard.

"We secure funding through work completion during the count period. Subject helps by providing reports of data which includes students' names, courses, assignments, and time stamps of when work was completed."

Case Study

Calexico High was at a historic high for absenteeism. Then they found Subject.

Serving nearly 2,750 students on the U.S.–Mexico border, where 100% of students are Hispanic and 85% qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, Calexico High School faced one of its biggest post-pandemic challenges: chronic absenteeism reached 42.1% in 2022—one of the highest rates the school had ever recorded.

After replacing Cyber High with Subject and expanding implementation across more than half of the campus, chronic absenteeism fell to approximately 28% by the 2023–24 school year. During the same period, Calexico achieved its highest math proficiency in four years while maintaining approximately 50% ELA proficiency.
